Celebrating our 40th Christmas Season

When we turn on the open sign this early November, we will be starting our 40th holiday season.

The highs and lows and ups and downs of running a small family business are significant; our first year could have been our last.

In the beginning, we couldn’t afford many of the safeguards that we have in place today, like alarm systems and back-up heaters. One very cold October morning, I came into the greenhouse to find our temperamental boiler had gone out in the night. It was 40 degrees in the greenhouse, and poinsettias do not like the cold. They were drooping terribly, and looked like a lost cause. It wasn’t until much later in the day (a very long day!) that they perked up a bit, and by the next day they were fine…all was not lost! The crop turned out beautifully, and we sold them all.

I could fill a book with experiences like that, and also a sequel with successes to match the near misses. We have been blessed to survive and thrive for 40 years, and could never have done it without our family of very dedicated employees and you, our valued customers. We can’t thank you all enough.

Happy and healthy holidays to you all,

The Cerny's Crew
